What a Difference a Year Makes…

These are the lilacs at my head table.

These are the lilacs at my head table. 4-13-12

2012.
It was a freak year. A year of weather I’ve never experienced in my years & I’ll kindly say I’m no spring chicken.
Although I wasn’t actively keeping track of any phonological events, I have a great memory attached to these lilacs (syringa reticulata).
First off, they are one of my favorite flowers as they smell terrific, and you’re helping your shrub by pruning the flowers off. I was also trying to save cash last year when I got married and cut them from my yard for my head table flowers! That was 4-13-12. The photo below is the same shrub today,Β  4-12-13.

My favorite, the smelly lilac!
The buds are juuuust breaking.

This is a great example of why a good horticulturist can’t use a Georgian calendar for scheduling in the garden

Enjoy the day & keep on planting!
