Summer Blooming Flowers 9-3-2013

In general, the weather this August was exactly how it should be; hot, humid, and dry.
I had thought to come catch up on some blooming posts, but not having internet for the weekend kabashed that thought.

Impatiens capensis – Jewelweed – These have a muciliginous sap that is alleged to soothe skin irritation caused by Poison Ivy and Stinging Nettle. This sap also has fungicidal properties used to treat Athlete’s Foot.

Hosta – This one smells like gardenia

Parthenocissus quinquefolia – berries

acer saccharinum – silver maple They get very chlorotic (lack of iron) this time of year.

Cornus mas – Cornelian cherry berries

– Hicks yews berry. Technically the seed isn’t poisonous but the red covering is.

Hibiscus moscheutos – these flowers can be dinner plate sized and are native here!

Sedum ‘Autumn joy’

Coreopsis – Not sure of variety

Thanks for visiting & keep on planting!
