Dark-Eyed Juncos – Junco hyemalis

These are some of my favorite birds. They are small-sized sparrows that only winter in my area and summer in Northern Canada. Their darker tops vary from dark brown to smokey gray.

They normally like to be in groups and hop around on the ground, however they aren’t scared to go wherever the food is.

I took these three today… I had to add to this post. Such adorable little puffballs!

  1. oh how nice to see these cute little guys first thing in the morning. It’s wonderful that you know a lot about birds and help make the rest of us a little smarter.

  2. These guys are great! I have a lot of them in my area too though they do stay in the summer. They’re pretty much regulars. Great shots you got in the windows! I’m glad you shared them. Some of them are quite sharp with nicely defined lines if you will. 🙂 You’ve captured their little round fluffiness well.
