2015 Warmest Winter… EVER!!

NOAA says that December through February – for meteorological record-keeping purposes, winter is defined as those three months in the Northern Hemisphere – was 1.42 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th-century average for all land and ocean areas. This tops the previous warmest winter of 2007 by 0.05 degrees Fahrenheit. Global temperature records are available for the period 1880-2015.

Individually, here is how each month ranked for the earth:

– December 2014: Warmest on record.
– January 2015: Second warmest on record.
– February 2015: Second warmest on record.

It’s just typical of the Midwest to be the bright blue, FRIGID section of the planet!

  1. I was in the middle of writing a comment when a really weird insect landed on my keyboard and I started taking photos and I lost my comment or I posted a half comment. What I wanted to ask was what is the general attitude towards Global Warming in the US? Down here there are some very right wing conservatives like our Prime Minister who has claimed that Global Warming is “crap” and the Greens who want us to stop using all carbon fuels and learn to live simpler and a great range in between. There are also a few who say that God will look after us so we can go on doing anything we want.

    • I get distractions like that constantly. . 🐞 Ooh look! 😉 haha
We here in the US are wasteful consumers. We also have our own oil, so no dealing with other countries for it. Oblamer, our president, is a Democrat and generally they are green types. Democrats have stopped a large oil pipeline from going in. They can’t stop it for long. We also have Al Gore (ex vice pres) who really fights for stopping global warming and to stop fossil fuel use.
What folks don’t get is if you plug in you car instead of having a gas powered car, where do you think the electricity is coming from? Here we generally burn coal for power. How is that any better? I think folks think they are doing the world better because they are not the polluter, directly.
I still stand on there’s too many people for this planet and we should knock off the breeding! Many folks would be better off without children. So would the children!

    • Me, too, suchled. A bug I never saw before landed on my keyboard yesterday. These are bugs moving north into Montana with global warming. Our conservative politicians say :
      1) There is no Global Warming.
      2) And it is a perfectly natural process we did not cause.
      3) And it is actually beneficial, so you should thank us for causing it.
      4) And it is too late to do anything to stop it, so shut up.

  2. I think there is no getting away from the fact that we humans are responsible for warming up the planet. We had our hottest day in 100 years last month here in CT (42C). We have to stop using up irreplaceable resources and destroying forests and habitats. I hope kids are being educated in this.

  4. Just FYEO Seven of Australia’s ten warmest years on record have occurred in the 13 years from 2002, with one cooler-than-average year in the past decade: 2011. The 10-year mean temperature for 2005–2014 was 0.55 °C above average, the highest on record. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/annual/aus/
And with the oceans warming up the weather is going to get for varied and that will also bring some cold extremes.
And then you’ll get to talk to more than just your boots.
