Astilbe ‘Maggie Daily’   |   Hmmm, Rose ‘Scarlet Flower Carpet’?

Shrub rose

Hydrangea arborescens  ‘Annabelle’

Monarda ~ Not sure what flavor

Monarda ‘Purple Lace’

Gaillardia aristata ‘Gallo Dark Bicolor’ ~ Blanket flower

Knautia macedonica ‘Thunder & Lightning’

Kalimeris incisa ‘Blue Star’ ~ Japanese aster

I feel asters are iffy in our neck or the woods. They love the open prairies, but not up the manicured plant beds. These are a great sub for them and they bloom lots longer.

Coreopsis vericillata ~ Tickseed

    • I just answered your pmail. I was stumped! 😣
Thank goodness I can answer your hydrangea question!
They are sort-of magic IMO. They do change color (not all hydrangeas, just macrophyllum kind). They are effected by the pH of the soil. Pink is alkaline (base), blue is acidic. You can change the color yourself by adding acid or alkaline to the soil around it. Have you had to water it by hand lately? Rain water is usually a tad acidic and well or other water sources are alkaline. Either way, some sort of alkaline material is getting into the roots to change it. It’s perfectly safe, just makes it a different color!

    • They are water hungry and can burn in the sun in one hour. 😣
I personally, don’t have any. I do think they are beautiful, but don’t have a great locale for them in my yard. Unless Breck keeps digging where he is currently and kills what’s there….. 😣
