Pearl Crescent ~ Phyciodes tharos

The Pearl Crescent is a very common butterfly in the eastern United States. It is also one of the hardest butterflies to identify with certainty, because of two very similar looking cousins, the Northern and Tawny Crescents. I’m hoping I picked the right one with this ID ūüėČ

They love to inhabit woodland edges, roadsides, and open fields. I saw this one at Illinois State Beach.

They usually have two broods a season. The first occurs from early May through early July, with the second brood occurring in August through mid September.

Caterpillars like to eat species of smooth-leaved true asters.
Nectar from a many of flowers feed the adults including shepherd’s needle, dogbane, swamp milkweeds, asters and winter cress.

‚ÄúTime is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.‚ÄĚ ~ Douglas Adams

Happy Sunday everyone!! I realize I’m a bit behind on the Blooming Flowers posts (by the amount in my drafts folder) and need to catch-up by posting on Sunday. My piss-poor scheduling made for an extra post for my dear readers. A win/win.

Summer Blooming Flowers 6-30-2016

We leave today for Door County, Wisconsin to enjoy our long Independence day weekend. Door County is a quaint, little peninsula located between Green Bay and Lake Michigan. My husband came here every summer as a child, as for me, I’m a virgin… Blush.¬† ūüėČ I am so looking forward to this trip!

There are so many fun things to do here. We’re going to kayak, there’s a Jens Jensen established school of art here, a dog beach, wineries, and so much more. I’m sure I’ll blog once or twice about it ūüėČ

Summer Blooming Flowers 6-23-2016

Happy Thursday everyone! I haven’t been writing any notes in my Blooming posts like I did last year. I am pretty busy at the workplace. I have to bring work home, which cramps my bloggin’ style. Frowny face.

I did get unshackled from my desk today. Unfortunately, manual labor was on the docket. I spent my time pulling cattails out of two detention basins. The smell was atrocious. Like rotting plants. I know the system is healthy, however it was like the “Bog of Eternal Stench”. It was also a mud fest in there. I was head to toe mud. Everywhere. Even in my boots. Glad I go commando! Had I worn socks, it would have been a bigger mess. ūüėČ
